Rock Fishing w/ a Fly on S.M. & Sonoma Coast

I am wondering if any of you fellow fly anglers have any experience fishing for rock fish. I want to know how you set up the line, leader, weight and fly?  I have been using  full sink and intermediate lines,  1 oz weight above my weighted clouser minnow and am catching fish but it's too much weight to cast and work through water.
Has anyone tried a dropper set up like you might use for trout.  Also would like to go fish with someone w/ this knowledge.  I have 5 kayaks so we can get out over the fish.

I have fished out of Santa Cruz with traditional spin gear and off the break water in San Diego using a weighted clouser with an sink tip and no other weight. Pretty sure you could fish the kelp beds without casting, sort of short line nymphing.

Check out these guys, they have it down! Down south that is. The Calico Syndicate
(https://www.facebook.com/TheCalicoSyndicate). There's a bit of info to be gleamed and some pretty good vids to watch. Looks like these guys are just using some really heavy lead core. If you ever want some company hit me up. My fly saltyness is limited to the surf but I've been thinking about targeting the rocky areas.
