Fly Tying Classes with Dan and Frank

The Peninsula Fly Fishers will begin a series of fly tying classes on June 1, 2023, and continue for six sessions ending on November 2, 2023. They'll take place at the Highlands Community Club location, beginning at 7:30 PM. Members Dan McMillan and Frank Cavaliere will lead the classes, and there will be a maximum of 8 participants.

Registration is required, and a fee of $60 will be charged. Participants will receive all materials needed for the session, with enough quantity to enable the tying of about 6 flies of each pattern. As some beginners may not have the necessary vise & tools, upon request the club will lend introductory toolsets for the course duration.

Classes are designed for those wanting an introduction to tying, as well as beginner tyers wanting more instruction and practice. Anyone is welcome to sign up, however.

The full sequence of patterns has not yet been finalized, but simpler and commonly-used flies will be emphasized. The likely starting point will be with midges, just to get everyone oriented. Input from attendees at the first session may influence the final plan. Perdigons, elkhair caddis, and woven nymphs will likely be in the mix.
